Enhancing our everyday lives through engaging objects
AKTTEM stands for sustainable furniture, lighting and home accessories for the everyday use. For us sustainability not only means creating timeless objects produced locally with the highest standards of craftsmanship, using environmental friendly materials and resourceful production techniques but also creating long-lasting and engaging interactions between the object and its user, generating a kind of relationship with each other.
Therefore our ambition is to create beautiful objects that not only provoke physical interaction and movement but a deeper emotional connection to the world and to each other. Physical interactions that determine how we think, explore and relate as humans – and as a company.
We chose our brand’s name AKTTEM combining the German word „aktiv“, translating to active, and the English word „item“. Together they are highlighting the core meaning of our company philosophy as well as of our products.
Our first product range Roll Collection was the starting point of AKTTEM, and its inspiration came from an art installation called „the Line“, created for the New Museum in Nuremberg by founder Verena Hennig.
The 25-meter long installation functioned as a large playground and spatial organizer. The abstract version of a very long bench made of 80 white inflatable mattress, provided the guests of the museum a comfortable place to play, relax, recharge and interact. By sitting down the user lifts up its neighbor, which creates an immediate open atmosphere between two strangers.
Hennig drew inspiration from the interactive installation, translating it into a product for the everyday use - the ROLL COLLECTION.
Roll Collection was followed by ROPE LIGHT a contemporary lighting design that draws an illuminated line through a space, constrained only by the imagination. The filigrane pendant allows for a multitude of configurations that allow for different graphical shapes to be drawn in the space.
