AKTTEM's founder Verena Hennig comes from the Background of Visual Communication and Film Directing. Hennig worked for GOOGLE Creative Lab London as well renowned practices such as as design agency SAGMEISTER & WALSH in New York, publishing house SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG MAGAZIN in Munich and architecture studio PERNILLA OHRSTEDT STUDIO in London.
Inspired from an early age by the work of American sculptor ALEXANDER CALDER, her appetite for interaction and playfulness was whetted by Calder‘s ability to animate the inanimate through the use of wires, and she has sought ever since to create designs that are both compelling and distinctly creative in their approach. This focus on the interaction between product and user has been the driving force in all of Hennig’s designs.
Since 2012 Hennig explores and produces together with her design practice STUDIO VERENA HENNIG progressive design solutions for a sustainable future, by investigating the questions of our daily lives.
Inspired by an earlier installation develop for a museum, Hennig translated the temporary concept into an object for the everyday use and into her first product; the interactive seating range „Roll Collection“. The product range since then grew from furniture, lighting to living accessories; leading to the launching of design brand AKTTEM in early 2018.
Hennigs' work has won numerous international design awards and was named one of the ADC YOUNG GUNS 2017, TOP 50 BEST GERMAN DESIGNERS in 2016, by ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST and got nominated for the GERMAN DESIGN AWARD NEWCOMER AWARD 2016.
