Immersive Mobility
Glitch Space
Glitch Space provides the backdrop for the Dezeen and MINI Frontiers: the future of mobility exhibition at designjunction during the London Design Festival.
Glitch Space visualises the digital data that driverless vehicles will capture in order to navigate the built environment. As cars become cartographers by continually 3D scanning their surroundings, we will gradually collect an ever-updating 1:1 replica of the world, in the form of a digital “point cloud”.
The project lead by Pernilla Ohrstedt Studio in collaboration ScanLAB Projects, the space at the old Sorting Office was scanned for a fraction of a second at the low resolution that the first driverless cars will render the world in – full of glitches and imperfections.
The 3D data obtained from this was super imposed back onto its physical counter part, draping a complex web of over 150,000 white vinyl dots onto the space with pin-point precision.
